I have a challenge for you, Friends! Consider making this meaningful stocking stuffer for someone you love.
No, you don’t have to go shopping or order something online and pay expedited shipping charges to get this done in the last few days before Christmas.
Nor do you need to be “crafty.”
All it requires is a little bit of time and a heart full of love.
I promise you, it is a gift that will be cherished by the recipient for years to come.
“What,” you might ask, “could this be?” My daughter gave me this gift seven years ago. I found it tucked in my stocking on Christmas morning. And it’s a gift I have looked at many, many times in the ensuing years.
As I unwrapped a small package from my stocking, I found a stack of note cards. The top card explained that the gift was a list of the things she loved about me. 21 cards for her 21 years of life.
Here are a few of my favorites:
#2 You are cool enough to laugh at yourself. It makes life way more fun.
#3 You have made the most welcoming & peace-filled home.
#4 You see the best in me & breathe life into it.
#5 You’ve always encouraged me to follow my dreams, even if they’re crazy.
#6 You make the best food.
#7 You are the best listener I know.
#9 You are so very generous.
#10 You are wise. I want & respect your wisdom more than anybody else.
#11 You like to bust a move.
#12 You take me on the best trips. Memories I’ll never forget.
#16 You’re funny.
#17 You are patient & forgiving. (Thank you a million times over.)
#20 You’re my best friend.
What an absolutely wonderful gift! I don’t share the specifics to puff myself up. Some, I just want to treasure in my heart and not share publicly. But each one is so humbling and inspires me to live up to the qualities she affirmed. I share them to give you ideas of things you can write. Words that are truly life-giving and encouraging to someone you love.
Could you prepare something like this for your spouse, your children, your parents this week?
Absolutely!
Even using a stack of index cards will do. Writing each quality on a separate card makes the statement seem even more significant.
One of the things all of us have learned in 2020 is that life is hard. The isolation caused by the pandemic has limited life-giving interaction for everyone. A natural result for many is feeling less confident and secure.
A gift like this, that can be read and re-read during lonely and challenging times, is priceless.
Please consider doing this for someone you love. And please tell me about it if you do!
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas! Praying that you feel your worth because of the saving, sacrificial love of Jesus Christ.
“Oh holy night, the stars are brightly shining.
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.”
